Pros

Innovative and state-of-the-art technology, talented and dedicated engineers to work with. Great cafeteria and nice gym.

Cons

over-diversified product portfolio and over-featured products

Advice to Management

The company has gotten bloated. Perhaps the senior management has become too "kind". Everyone there knows annual performance review is a joke because anyone seldom loses his job regardless of how ineffective his work performance may be. Is the cost increase proportional to revenue or profit growth over the years? Have you thought of the GE or Cisco model of letting go the bottom ten percentile just to keep the company lean and focused? Would you ever take this company private and run it like KKR would?

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

The engineering staff is very knowledgeable and, generally speaking, Broadcom is far superior in its execution than its competitors

    Cons

The base compensation is low compared to our similarly sized competitors (Qualcomm, TI, etc). This used to be due to the fact that the compensation package was tilted heavily towards equity, but any employee who didn't join Broadcom before the year 2000 did not really get significant benefit from the equity package. Now, with the stock price being flat to down over the last 6 years, the overall compensation at Broadcom is low.

    Advice to Management

Please improve compensation, especially in (obscenely) high cost areas like Silicon Valley
