Pros

The pay was great compared to other retail stores. The job is also tons of fun if you have the right personality for the position.

Cons

You get burnt out exceptionally fast, at least at the store level. There also seems to be an unfair promotion system where district managers have different agendas.

Advice to Management

Always keep the lines of communication open. Communication is a key factor to the success of any business, but Build a Bear currently lacks open communication.

    Pros

    Work life balance
    Flexible hours
    Fair compensation and bonus structure
Watching our guests create not only a bear, but a memory too.

    Cons

In the retail world, most holidays tend to be the busiest work times. It is the same here, but you would be hard pressed to find a retail store that wasn't that way.

    Advice to Management

I really don't know how our upper management is run. Sometimes it seems like there is a disconnect between the stores and head office and even between departments at the world bear quarters. But that could just be perception.

  2. "Great Experience and MEMORIES"

    Pros

    FUN, FAMILY CENTERED working environment
Treated all levels of employees with respect
Not a cut throat environment--very team centric and collaborative

    Cons

Coming from a BIG BOX environment you will experience culture shock at some interpretations of HR policy and procedures. Not every DM's interpretations are the same.

    Advice to Management

BQ (headquarters) needs to listen more to the needs and concerns of the entire Store Management team. Rework the Bonus tier so that Assistants Workshop Managers earn more.
