I worked at BuildASign.com full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

They are able to attract very talented people and I had great co-workers at the non-management level. Very rapid growth, and if you're willing to stay you can move up quickly. Company is committed to supporting local community. Constantly innovating and trying to improve so you can learn a lot quickly.

Cons

There was a lack of transparency with upper management and a pretty serious disconnect with how happy they thought everyone was vs. reality. HIGH turnover rate (one co-worker left after a month), and poor work-life balance. Expect to work overtime. Office culture felt very forced depending on the department - production in particular was generally the least happy group of people.

I worked at BuildASign.com as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic culture centered around innovation, responsibility, and community. Open office concept promotes information sharing. Every day is casual Friday. Coworkers are fun and easy to talk to. Management is very approachable.

    Cons

The signage industry became uninteresting as time went on. Management could have communicated expectations and areas for improvement better, especially at the start of employment.

    Advice to Management

Interact more with employees, share best practices with new arrivals, and recognize their achievements and hard work.

    I worked at BuildASign.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked for the company for quite sometime. Company Culture is pretty good, a little like high school where you get along better if you get along with the main click in the call center.

Free lunches once a month. Call center gets "Fun" Fridays where you get lunch or desert and sometimes they do themed weeks.

Fun Company events. After work happy hours.

    Pay is decent.

This job is a lot to learn and a lot to handle. The company is still growing and still getting it's structure. The upper management does really care and does work really hard to get things together. The overwhelming growth in the business makes it hard for them to catch up.

    Cons

The call center is super busy and fast paced. Be prepared to multi-task like a pro! Sometimes because of the volume of customers you are required to work through your lunch. They do provide lunch when they do that, however sometimes during the busy season you can end up working through 2+ lunches a week. Because of the business of the center it can be hard during certain seasons to really get anything from the management. For example it's hard for them to keep up the weekly review of your metrics so you wait 2-4 weeks before you really know or get to discuss how your doing performance wise.

The structure is not really there. They are trying and they implement and change things all the time, yet there is still a dis-organization to everything. The promises they make don't always come to fruition.

If you wish to progress it can be very hard too. Very limited room for growth and management stays in their positions. If you express to management that you want to progress then you will get more responsibility however no incentives or raises. You will get more things to do and have to maintain the same volume of calls that you are required to do with some lenience, yet are expected to over-achieve constantly which can be hard in this busy fast paced environment.

When you are new you have a 90 day trial as usual. However even beyond your 90 days if you have trouble and fall behind on your metrics or make mistakes you can be written up and back on a 90 day trial. It's rare that you make it through that second trial before you are let go. Most cases people are let go because the call center is too much for them and they are not able to preform at the level they expect. If you are used to fast paced environments and are very computer savvy then you will be fine.

If you are thinking about working here and are looking for a job where you can just stay in one place and make a decent salary and not really grow then this place is good for you. If you are looking for a place with structure and that will grow your career then this place is not for you.

    Advice to Management

Get a better training course and more structure in the call center overall.
