I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Ethical focus, good people who attempt to make a healthy work environment. Reasonable compensation programs. Very flexible work environment. The most virtual workplace I've dealt with and it works

Cons

Bureaucracy hinders the success of the company. Too many cycles spent on reorganizing and matrix coordination. Not enough time spent on workable business strategy and marketing budget keeps getting cut

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It is a fairly big company so there can be opportunity. The facilities are great and there are many attempts at trying to make a more productive environment. The use of agile/scrum has been embraced from the highest levels of management and there seems to be an understanding of where the company needs to get to.

    Cons

The obvious way to make things better is to reward employees with pay increases/bonuses which really doesn't happen. Managers are told to be overly critical when doing reviews. It is (and has always been) sold to the employees that noone is perfect and eveyone should have something to improve on, however in reality the blemishes on the reviews are used to not give as high of an increase, or even to point to when it comes time to lay people off. Benefits keep being taken away from employees while upper-level management's salaries and bonuses increase.

    Advice to Management

CA is a billion-dollar company that has survived on the backs of all of its employees. They need to be paid a lot better than they current are. If CA can pay fairly for the work they are getting, then that would cover up a lot of the other short-comings in the work-place. If they don't, then they will be in serious trouble when people start retiring in the next few years and others start leaving. Also, although I like the agile process, it has been imposed on us and it simply doesn't work for every product group.

I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is higher than most companies. Benefits are good. They provide any tools you need to do your job.

    Cons

Always laying off. Always changing departments and the way they operate.

    Advice to Management

Keep the employees for the long term they expect to work there until retirement. Too many layoffs in your history.
