Pros

In the right product line group, you will find aggressive and creative management teams that support team members and provide opportunities to improve pertinent skill sets and advance.

Cons

Big organization with lots of red tape; many people unfortunately have a very inflexible "inside the box" approach to how things need to get done.

Advice to Management

Continue aggressive internal communication to build employee trust. Enable product line teams to be creative and find ways to foster agility and flexibility when it comes to following SDLC rules and guidelines set for the entire company.

"CA has lots of resources but its bureaucratic environment makes it hard for someone to make a difference."

    Pros

Big company with lots of resources and customers. It's a lot easier to sell into an environment where CA is the incumbent. CA actually has some talented people that work there too.

    Cons

Company is its own worst enemy in imposing bureaucracy on any individual initiative to change things. Creating a new product is extremely difficult with all of the hoops that have to be jumped through: legal, pricing, sales operations, etc.
People with a high sense of drive either get beaten down over time and stop trying, or they leave and go somewhere where their contribution will make more of a difference.

    Advice to Management

Senior management has a tough job because the company is so big and the culture is so entrenched. Swainson has made some genuine improvements and he seems like he understands that there's a lot that needs to change.
If something can be done to throw away the bureaucracy and genuinely empower people to get things done without getting approval from 20 different groups, there could be a lot of good things that could come out of CA.

    Pros

Very understanding leadership, pleasant work environment.

    Cons

    The sins in CA's past.

    Advice to Management

CA is not alone in this but it would be great if the less emphasis were placed on the price of a share of stock and more emphasis were placed on dividends.
