I worked at CDM Smith full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are many talented and dedicated expert individuals in this organization. I learned much and appreciate the time spent there.

    Cons

The economic downturn of 2008 finally caught up with CDM Smith as the backlog of projects decreased. A tremendous amount of focus is on personal utilization and projected billable hours, so staff who may be meeting or close to their utilization goals but have a decreasing projected long-term workload are susceptible to facing initial reduction in hours or being laid-off.

    Advice to Management

Reduce costs at upper management levels especially in Cambridge and build up talent within Client Service Managers. Build up transportation practice beyond just transportation planning.

I have been working at CDM Smith as an intern (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay for internship in the area. Amazing, friendly, and intelligent co-workers.

    Cons

Not very many hours offered. There isn't always a consistent flow of work for interns, practice the art of looking busy sometimes.
