Pros

CDW goes out if its' way to hire good people. It is a good, fun work environment and offers above average pay for above average producers.

Cons

who thought it would be a good idea to put an IT guy in charge of the entire sales organization? The founder, Michael Krasky's mantra was - take care of the co worker and they will take care of the customer. He built a billion dollar business that way. John Edwardsons focus seems to be - pander to the stock holder and pay lip service to the unwashed minions.

Advice to Management

actually put the "CDW Way" into practice - especially the "involve the stakeholder in the decision making process" part!

    Pros

CDW has started to test the waters around work/life balance, launching pilot programs in individual departments (individual department driven, not corporate driven) to help coworkers better organize their worklife and homelife.

    Cons

Our overall growth has slowed over the past 5 or so years, and what used to be a very driven company seems to be losing its mojo. Alignment across individual departments seems more complicated, everyone wants to drive strategy and no one wants to execute anymore making it hard to complete simple projects.

    Advice to Management

Our senior management team has surveyed all coworkers annually for the past couple of years, and they are working to change very simple requests. The largest request seems to be around overall compensation of which they seem to be continually avoiding. Also, communication seems to stop at the executive level and doesn't funnel down to the coworker level in a consistant way. Some Directors communicate well while other's not so well. What's happening is that coworkers aren't getting important communications around direction the company is taking and overall goals/objectives.

    Pros

Exposed to several different types of technologies. Series of on the job training. Top vendors host several events each year to increase your knowledge base. I'd estimate at least one or two trainings a month that are worthwhile.

    Cons

Pay is extremely low and non competitive until you reach year 3 to 4. CDW is a very old and traditional company that uses older methods of acquiring business.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to retain more of the talented sales professionals.
