I have been working at CEB full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

- true access to the c-suite (very rare, especially at the levels that CEB allows it) and usually quite solid insight and content
- high performance is recognised and can open doors
- work hard/play hard culture
- very smart and dynamic workforce- some incredible colleagues
- very strong at sales process
- one used to be able to leap-frog within the company if they proved themselves, but today there are many more processes and policies and rules
- some leaders that deserve an immense amount of respect and are very fair

Cons

- sales-oriented and numbers focused to a detriment at times
- comes across as short-sighted in its strategy, despite claiming otherwise
- most senior leaders are old-timers (decade plus tenure in the company) and fresh blood doesn't seem to last very long
- depending on program/role/territory can 'get lucky' or 'not so lucky' and find yourself struggling in an environment where numbers are everything
- limited formal development
- middle management does very little coaching
- political and senior leadership displays signs of 'favoritism'
- fairly flat structure, thus limiting development opportunities and future roles
- depending on manager, some are very micro-managy
- Q4 holiday policy is ridiculous- forbidding employees to take time off in certain months and insisting that they must be in the office between christmas and new year if they have not hit their targets for the year (instead of allowing them to work remotely in those few days, as they do for the employees who are at target)- meanwhile no one is actually allowed to take those days off.

Advice to Management

Communication with employees is appalling- much stands to be gained by improving this and especially how it cascades down the organisation. You really must read your own research and try to implement at least half of what you advise to your clients. A bit of fresh blood could bring in new perspectives and help improve the organisation- think about how to retain such talent better.
