I have been working at CGI full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

The people that I work with on my project are very technical. They are also very affable. CGI is a pleasant place to work. The benefits are decent and they do comp time. They are very concerned about member satisfaction as well as client satisfaction.

Cons

Matrix management tends to muddy the water. They have an anemic 2% 401k match. Their internal websites are the result of many mergers and as such, it is ackward and almost impossible to find useful information.

Advice to Management

More work from home. Faster turn around on expense reimbursement please.

I have been working at CGI full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They say they care about work/life balance, and company policy seems to reflect that, but account group/project policy is often "meet client demands at any cost, regardless of whether or not it's reasonable."

    Cons

Middle/upper management over-promises constantly, leaving the people actually performing project tasks on the hook for unreasonable deadlines and/or impossible requirements.

401(k) matching stinks, too. Absolutely not competitive at all.

    Advice to Management

Corporate policies about flexible scheduling and work/life balance need to permeate the company, and not simply be discarded when they're inconvenient.

I have been working at CGI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Its a solid job and the company is profitable. There is a great mix of older and younger employees so it is easy to identify with others as well as get experience/new perspectives. There are some self-funded company events (you have to pay into them from your paycheck to participate, not mandatory).

    Cons

Management really dones't care about the wellbeing or growth of their employees. Work/Life balance is non-existant and the company is extremely cheap when it comes to their employees( e.g. giving out a bus/metro schedule to get back from a company holiday party located in outer Fairfax.). Professional Growth is slow and there are not many training opportunities to take advantage of.

    Advice to Management

Start to care about the people that work for you. Its more expensive to make it easy for people to leave, then hire them back as subcontractors from another company.
