I have been working at CGI full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Career development - tuition assistance, access to online training for professional certifications, certification fees are paid.
Opportunity for promotion without applying; if you perform, you are automatically advanced.
Profit sharing - stock purchases are matched to 3% without a waiting or vesting period.
401K matching to a certain percentage. Great benefits packages.
Annual bonuses eligible after a year. Not many companies now award bonuses to the people working in the trenches, so a very nice perk.

Cons

If CGI is the lead on a project, everything is good. If CGI is a sub-contractor on a project, the staff that is deployed on that assignment will need to adhere to the lead contractor's culture and it is not necessarily a good thing. Someone working as a subcontractor needs to just roll with the punches and adapt.

I worked at CGI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    They allowed unlimited sick days

    Cons

Our IT department had been outsource and the company that won the bid was CGI. It became apparent that this Canadian company did not like Americas. They would make comments about our "poor" work habits, and they did what they could to make our working situation such that we would quit.

    Pros

    -Laid back work environment
    -Flexible work schedule
    -Great work-life balance
    -Great people
-Exciting opportunities if you want them
    -Company is financially sound

    Cons

    -No clear career progression
    -No training
    -Poor leadership/High turnover of leadership
    -Poor traditional consultant bonus structure
-No focus on smaller/consulting projects and resources
    -No organized practices
-Consulting Bench is 3 weeks (roll of a project and find another one in 3 weeks or your gone) - most consulting companies it is several months - this makes it extremely difficult to have talented resources that can jump on consulting projects when needed on a short notice

    Advice to Management

Create a clear career path and put more focus on developing your resources. Organize your talent pools to be experts in a certain area (consulting practices) rather than throwing whoever you have at whatever project happens to come up.
