I have been working at CGI full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Since they have such diverse work there is good opportunity to try different roles without leaving the company, good work life balance on most projects.

Cons

Not lots of opportunity to move upwards if you aren't in Fairfax and even then its hard with such a flat organization to reward top performers with promotions.

Advice to Management

The culture isn't very accepting of teleworkers and people in offices outside of Fairfax, yet we are encouraged to telework and hire members in remote "centers of excellence". Provide training for managers on managing a geographically dispersed team.

    I worked at CGI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    CGI is a large company with enough money to operate well into the future. Because of the size, individual impact is low, making job security high as well as having a structure that makes it easy to have a long term career given your desire to be complacent with slow growth and managed responsibilities.

    Cons

    Because of the large business, getting noticed as a top performer is a painful process. You have to be good and put in your time. The jobs are often boring and they tend to pigeonhole individuals to suit the business needs even if that person is a rockstar.

    Advice to Management

    Stop drastically underpaying entry positions. The employee burn rate is so tremendously high because newly grads are forced to work for pay that is roughly at the bottom of their field for ridiculous hours and a painfully slow growth and transfer program.

    Pros

    Nothing, this company destroy's BD people.

    Cons

    A Vice President from the Stanley acquisition who drove the entire effort at Department of State for a $260m Single Award IDIQ was fired moments after the submission to the Federal Government because he hadn't "sold" anything else in 18 months. His entire job was to drive this single opportunity. He did, CGI at the last minute had to make the flip to a sub role because of this VP's knowledge of the opportunity. CGI STILL WON the opportunity but the VP was fired just after the submission to the government. How poorly short-sighted.

    Advice to Management

    Start to really learn what BD is all about. You don't have a clue.
