I have been working at CHOC Children's full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great doctors and nurses, they really care about the patients

Patient care teams work well together, focus is on getting children better

Great mission

Cons

CEO is indecisive and creates a lot of turmoil. It is easy to see that the management team lives in fear of her. All decisions must go through Kim Cripe. Causes delays in every decision. She has big public image and very little visibility in the hospital.

Advice to Management

Get a CEO who can let her team work. Kim has been at CHOC forever, she is over her head, doesn't trust the leaders and clinicicans. Find someone who can build a team and develop a trusting management team. GET RID OF ALL OF THE CONSULTANTS!

I have been working at CHOC Children's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

CHOC has an incredible culture of care for patients, their families and associates. CHOC fosters a positive, teamwork environment. With the opening of the new tower in 2013, there are numerous clinical opportunities available.

    Cons

Because we are in a building phase, traffic is sometimes congested, plan your trip to CHOC 15 minutes earlier than scheduled appointment. Associates should use the employee parking shuttle service and avoid crossing at the busy intersections.

    Advice to Management

    Continue great communication strategies.

    Pros

    AMAZING Mission and purpose
    Great people to work with
You will love what you do

    Cons

Very political and hierarchical. If you aren't management, it's hard to be heard. Management is over extended and are too focused on just getting things done.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of leaders who are dead weight. They don't listen and just hold CHOC back from being the best it can be.
