I have been working at CMA CGM America full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

very generous Paid Time Off, great insurance and 401K benefits, gym and nice sized cafeteria in building, overall nice atmosphere

Cons

pay isn't great, management decides to make changes but doesn't effectively communicate with or understand the employees who are doing the work, some people have to work 10-7 or 11-8

Advice to Management

make changes to make the job more efficient and less stressful for the employees

I worked at CMA CGM America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits, depending on your job and tenure

    Cons

Micromanaging, lack of ability to advance... management tends to play favorites when it comes to internal candidates being able to move up the ranks. Also, the management is not open to new ideas or process improvements, even if they have been shown to be effective.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees as much as you tell everyone that you do. Foster new ideas, don't squash them. Make it easy for employees to approach you with constructive criticism or work related issues. Make it clear what the requirements for promotion are so that folks don't spend years trying to get ahead, only to get nowhere. Lastly, stop playing favorites. Who can hold their liquor or party the hardest on the weekend should have nothing to do with who gets ahead in the job world.

Non-management employees are sometimes made to feel just like cogs on a wheel (depending on the department you work in).

Make sure you are making an effort to listen to your employees.
