I have been working at CMD Agency full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Interesting work, talented teams, great work environment. I am for the most part very happy. Despite what one reviewer stated, I have seen and experienced a significant commitment to work/life balance and flexibility in schedule/working from home.

Cons

I have the same frustrations that other reviewers have posted: lack of executive leadership, no raises based on performance (although I hear that this is changing), no bonuses/compensation for creatives who work the extra hours to win new work, plenty of space for weaker employees to coast (and lack of repercussions if/when they do).

Advice to Management

Compensate teams based on profitability and winning new business. This will reduce waste (by peer pressure, if nothing else) and ensure commitment/motivation for all team members to "go the extra mile."

    Pros

    A pretty stable company with decent pay and benefits. Really great coworkers (by far the best part of working there) and a decent location with nice facilities.

    Cons

    The upper management of CMD is terrible. They don't have a good strategic vision and seem to be unwilling to listen to employees complaints on how to improve day to day operations. People who are ambitious end up getting overworked until they have no choice but to leave, resulting in pretty high turnover.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees - you have good people working for you.

    Pros

    Great co-workers, good clients, a great way to learn how the industry works.

    Cons

    Management favors a 'get-er-done' attitude, making creative talent feel more like a production shop. While this can be true on and off at many agencies, this is the prevailing feeling at CMD and can sort of suck all the fun out of your job. Also, all the 'perks' of working in advertising receive lip service here but employees are penalized for actually taking them up on those perks. Long lunches? Leaving early to pick up your kids from school? Working from home? Playing the company x-box? Not really going to happen. Working all weekend and long evenings? Totally.

    Advice to Management

    Hire people who understand the media space they are working in. They also need to understand the legwork and the questions they need to ask of the client that give their team the information they need to deliver a quality product. Your continue to lose quality creative team members because you undervalue their contributions and overvalue your account team.
