    It could be relatively hectic at times, as well as having much downtime. It really depended upon your project and department.

    Pros

    Decent salary/benefits, some good people, and a good legacy name in the industry. The global footprint allows a huge product mix to be sold, but it is sometimes difficult to get the right stuff on the market fast enough.

    Cons

    The "corner office" has had a revolving door on it for years. Promotions to the top layers are not from within, but outside hires with no wheelbase in the industry. There is a distinct lack of guidance on the part of HR with little training of manager and supervisors. Performance reviews in the "meritocracy" are all top-down, with forced rankings of groups across the bell curve. Even in a high performance group, someone is always going to be the scapegoat and get a low rating that really has no relationship to actual performance or attitude. Seems to be a training ground for other companies: more young talent leaves for other equipment companies than is hired away.

    Advice to Management

    Groom employees so that you can promote from within and perserve the brand equity that so important in the industry. Energize R&D to get back the leadership in creating new technology instead of being a follower as today. Acknowledge everyones contributions without asking for more tomorrow. Create a corporate vision and sell it to the employees- then stick to the plan and make it work.
