I have been working at COUNTRY Financial full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

New CEO in 2012 that is really visible, making good changes, and trying to modernize technology. Medium size company with a small company feel. The people are great. Good opportunities to see things all the way through and do a lot of development.

Cons

Located in the middle of Illinois. Hard to attract diverse talent because of location. Eighty five year old company with lots of long term management and employees make it hard to move quickly and make things happen.

Advice to Management

Be more open minded about virtual work and virtual employees. If management in a certain area is hold the company back, don't wait till they die or retire - get rid of them.

I have been working at COUNTRY Financial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Country has a excellent training program for new agents. Country offers a base salary helping new agents get established. The support of the home office, the claim's department and underwriting is a huge asset for the agents.

    Cons

It is very difficult to find a work-life balance in this job. The emphasis for new agents is sales. However, there is a lot of service work that eats into servicing current clients. This becomes more evident as your business grows. There is not enough agent support staff for new agents. It is a great way to learn the business, but it takes away from sales which new agents are measured.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to find a balance between employee agents and career agents. The pressure on new agents (employee agent's) to sell and make benchmarks is very tough compared to career agent's who have much less stringent goals. There needs to be a way to spread out the overall goals amongst the agency.

I worked at COUNTRY Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There really is not any. I was glad to land a position with State Farm.

    Cons

-Working in a call center is a nightmare to begin with
-Time off policies are poor compared to competitors
    -Very little advancement opportunity
-They act like the call center jobs are your careers and don't help you pursue other goals
