I worked at CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer, has been named one of the 50 most community-minded companies in the U.S. for multiple years in a row. In 2018 and 2019, 100% of CSAA employees volunteered in their communities, which is the highest volunteer rate in the country for companies with more than 3,000 employees (and obviously the highest you can go for any company). Employees get 24 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer at pretty much anywhere they decide: schools, pet hospitals, elder care, national parks, food banks, etc. There is also a lot of support for training and education--up to $5300 or so per year for approved programs / schools. Worklife balance is generally a huge plus in terms of on-premise office hours. Increasingly, people do need to put in more time to make sure the company hits its goals in a lean expense environment, but you still don't have to put in unhealthy hours to succeed. CSAA is investing in new businesses as part of 'innovating the future' and it provides a chance for people to contribute to new ideas and businesses, though the degree to which you can do that from certain job areas does vary (like anywhere).

    Cons

Auto insurance is a brutal, low-margin, low-growth business and big players are taking big share, like GEICO, Progressive, and USAA. Their models are lower-expense and they have the scale to make other Top 10 and Top 20 players, like CSAA, have to cut expenses and innovate to compete. It's not a total con as much as a tough reality for the whole sector, but just know that expense management is a daily concern.
