I have been working at CVS Health full-time (More than a year)

Pros

CVS is very focused on training. You will know how to do a job fully before you are assigned to it. It's a retail management job where the manager can get full weekends or other consecutive days off without jumping through hoops. You have a lot of control over your environment, and even if you go against the company standard, if you can back up your reasoning with sound logic and good numbers you will be supported in your decision. it is a place where you truly can control your destiny! All this on top of a very good salary and a fantastic benefits and bonus package.

Cons

Retail management mans retail hours. Retail management means standard retail staffing issues. Like most businesses, labor budgets are trimmed, but the workload is not. There are certain areas that are over-micromanaged, which get in the way of doing more useful tasks... The hiring process is too clunky and time consuming. You have to start replacing an employee two to six weeks before they ever let you know that they're quitting...

Advice to Management

You're spending millions on paperwork, signs, and other things that are ignored by most stores all the while wondering why the company's reputation for customer service is so low. Spend that money on your people instead, and not the managers, but the hourly cashiers and supervisors. If every store had an hours budget increase of only 10% the stress on the management and the positive effect on customer relations would create benefits that far outweigh the cost.

    Pros

CVS is one of the most profitable companies in the USA. They are well respected throughout the retail industry. Their stock is strong and if given the opportunity to purchase with company discount I would do so. As corporate is always looking for ways to cut expenses and increase profits.

    Cons

As a Store Manager you no longer have a quality of life. The expectation is to be available 7 days a week and you are expected to work between 50 and 60 hours every week. Even when you put those type of hours in, your District Manager does not appreciate the time and effort that you are putting in. District Managers only care about themselves, have poor communication skills, put you on performance reviews at the drop of a hat and only follow up on said reviews when it is convenient for them, rather than as stated when performance review is administered. Company has put a greater emphasis on customer service scorecards over the past year than ever before. Problem is that these scores are not true scores. When only 10 out of 4000 customers take a survey, you are no getting a realistic score. There are many Managers out there who have figured out a way to cheat on these surveys and more who have not. Those who have figured out a way to cheat are treated like gold because they are making their District Manager look good. Those who are struggling are constantly hearing how they are not doing their job properly and how there are plenty of people out there who are looking to take their job.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job following up on your District Managers. They have lost the respect of most of their Store Managers because of their poor communication skills, lack of answers to Store Manager when they actually need them and being so smug about Managers actually wanting to have a life outside of CVS. It would also be nice if District Managers worked their share of nights and weekends as is required by Regional Manager. Managers are always being told that most customer service issues occur on the night and weekend shift and yet you will rarely see a District Manager in a store during nights or weekends for a regular store visit to observe why there is a problem. Corporate needs to find a way to police the cheating going on with "My Customer" and with "Email Sign Up %" scores. If you were to dig into this, you will find that a large % of stores with high scores have found a way to cheat the system.

    Pros

The pay is and benefits are comparable to other similar companies.

    Cons

There are so many tasks and scorecards that we are graded on that it is impossible to accomplish all of them with the minimal help that the store is provided. If you speak up and voice your displeasure with the company then you are sure to get a visit from an executive who will notice that you didn't get everything done and then it is only a matter of time before you end up leaving the company. It is best to keep your thoughts to yourself and try to ride it out the best you can.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees, they are the face of your company.
