Long hours, narrow bottom line focus, very limited professional growth oppertunities outside of retail management

    The outfitters are a great bunch of people.

    Cons

    The outfitters are not as important as they were before the store went corporate.

    Advice to Management

    Really listen to your outfitters, the ones who have been there in the trenches. They know what needs to be done better than someone sitting in an office.

    Pros

    My fellow coworkers, and being in the know on outdoors equipment. And I had 3 really good days working there (in 1000 days total, not kidding)

    Cons

    Company, corporate, and managers. Incompetence at all upper levels. Laziness of management expecting you to do everything why they walk around to say they did something, then go back to hide in the office. Not near enough employees to handle all the customers. HR is a joke. They are more out to get you then work for you. Having to take customers crap because they are the money and outfitters are the company's feces.

    Advice to Management

    Work one month minimum in every department at the retail level, and while there talk to customers and outfitters, not the managers. You will find plenty of changes and things to fix at the store and company level based on your hands on experience and the advice of senior outfitters and regular customers. If not, work another month in every department at another store. If still no changes needed, you are probably part of the problem with the company and you need to leave. You are why people hate working there, because you don't notice what is wrong, and you don't notice what outfitters bring up on a daily/monthly/annual basis and you are why it doesn't get fixed.
