I have been working at Cadence Design Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Good infrastructure and great culture. You can get plenty of resources to enhance your skills. Processes are laid down clearly and followed as well. Every individual is treated with respect and there is equality. Recognition of work is done appropriately.

Cons

In some areas, the "aggression" is missing, which can lead to complacency. Budgets are extremely tight generally, and this can be stifling in many respects. Salaries used to be ahead of the industry at one time, but that is no longer true.

I have been working at Cadence Design Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1) Good services like Cab, free food and
    2) Not much job politics (at least not at junior levels) and people are mostly friendly and supporting in work.
    3) Pays well if you work good. (But not initially)
    4) Flexible timings. You can even work from home for over a month (If you actually work) !!

    Cons

    1) Pathetic coding practices and lack of much innovative people.
    2) Huge dependency on senior employees to understand tough aspects of the code (due to above reason).
    3) Most of the good work happens in U.S. and most of the time people fix bugs and introduce new bugs (unintentionally).
    4) Doesn't have good starting package, considering it's the 2nd largest EDA company and both the 1st and 3rd ranking companies have substantial difference in package.

    Advice to Management

    1) Hire quality engineers and make sure that people do work not just with agility but also with quality and readability.
    2) Stop complicating employee's work by adding unnecessary overheads.(Handling clear case branches and catering to sales persons)
    3) Make sure that R & D engineer's work isn't mixed with other team employee's work.
    4) Employee's performance should be assessed by the no. of bugs reduced in his/her domain and not by the no. of bugs he/she fixes.
    5) Work on improving the employee's coding and generic tool knowledge. (e.g. those working on compilers might never had read a single book on compilers neither attended a company funded training for it)

I worked at Cadence Design Systems (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cadence pays well in Industry- for very mundane work.
Cadence gives excellent stock options and health benefits.
Office locations are good and facilities are excellent in house.

    Cons

Cadence patent committees are very poorly organized- better to file patents once
    once leaves Cadence.
Line Managers rarely know what type of work is coming down the line.
Cadence experience is not at all very valuable in other companies- it is mostly customer
support and engagements and will teach you nothing other than tool skills.
Cadence is very unsupportive of employees trying to study even on their own time.
Stock price has been below $20 for 4 years - no chance of recovery. Far trails the
    industry peers in perception.
