I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Loved working for this company. Started as a sales associate and worked my way up to store manager in 2 years. Many career advancement opportunity.

Cons

Not much payroll to work with during slow times. Many times worked single coverage for the majority of the day. This didn't help being able to control shrink. Did not enjoy dealing with loss prevention on a daily basis. Also a lot of nights and weekends since store managers need to be scheduled during peak sales times, which s understandable and expected in a retail environment but I not ideal for balancing work and life.

Advice to Management

Provide more payroll so store managers can staff appropriately. Better coverage helps stores provide better customer service, which is our number one priority.

Easy, better pay than most entry level retail positions
    Fun, moderately paced work environment

    Cons

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Good employee discount, not a lot of prior knowledge is needed. Fairly easy job, just have to be able to people find the exact right shade of shoes or match an ugly outfit.

    Cons

Not a lot of product training is available, so you must rely on knowledgeable SM and ASMs. Can be boring if there are no customers in the store. The pricing of items in the store can be very confusing and often results in angry customers. Unless things have changed, stores do not have access to the company website, so if someone comes in looking for a "thing they saw online" it can be difficult to find it.

    Advice to Management

More and more easily available product knowledge would help a lot. Associates being able to speak to features and benefits of product would help them to achieve more sales.
