I have been working at California Teachers Association full-time

Pros

Salary and benefits are top notch. Although salaries are the same for the same positions throughout the state, so if you live in an expensive part of the state (ie. Bay Area) you may not be as happy as, say, someone in the Central part of the state with the salary.

Cons

Bureaucratic. They tend to hire very good people but most of the Supervisors are not trained or have not clear function to the organization. Otherwise everyone else is great.

Advice to Management

Get rid of the Supervisor position altogether or at least hire people who are qualified and understand the work that their subordinate do.

Your ideas or initiative as good as they may be, will not be used because the organization has well-established policies and procedures that are strictly followed not permitting change where needed.

    Advice to Management

    Allow room for improvement.

    - Stressful and negative environment
    - No promotional opportunities (unless your supervisor or manager retires)
    - Several disgruntled employees who are mentally checked out counting down to retirement
