Pros
- Decent if you want to get your foot in the door of the cannabis industry, but leave as soon as you find better options out there - Employee discount - used to be that it was 50% off for 1st party and 25% on 3rd party with no cap on purchasing. Now it's 35% across the board with a $400 cap on how much you can buy per month and a new matching friends and family discount (Probably to cut costs and give employees the illusion of no value lost.) - Have met some really cool people whilst working here - temporary $1 extra "gratitude pay" for the duration of the shelter in place or however long they feel like it. - Standard benefits package (401k, stocks, insurance) - Flexibility with hours
Cons
- Several rounds of mass layoffs - Top heavy (Too many managers) - Takes advantage of their customers with classic marketing gimmicks like using celebrity affiliations (Jay-Z, Joe Montana, etc), renaming popular cannabis strains, and upcharging on special "limited edition" batches of products that are indistinguishable from the normal stuff - Lack of discipline and organization that creates stressful last minute fires that have to be put out - Lots of passing the buck, kicking the can down the road, or just shrugging and saying “I don’t know”. - Employees are expected to feel happy, fulfilled, and grateful whilst operating like robots under poor work conditions - Nepotism - people getting hired or promoted because they're friends or family with the higher-ups - Shallow and vapid corporate virtue signalling to the local community and Caliva employees with hollow gestures like billboards and social media campaigns - Regardless of what the higher-ups say, Caliva is not a family; it's a corporation - 2% cost of living pay increase that doesn't keep up with the cost of living here in the Bay Area - Tons of regulatory hoops to jump through
