Pros

The best asset that Calumet Photographic has to offer is its employees. I have never worked any place that had so many dedicated and talented employees.

You can also take advantage of the employee discounts that are offered by Calumet Photographic and other photographic manufactures.

Cons

Like many companies, Calumet Photographic has areas that need to be improved for the company to grow and be more profitable.

For the past 12 years Calumet Photographic had been on a roller coaster ride due to the decisions of past management and owners. The one thing that has been consistent and missing from Calumet Photographic is a clear company identity (or mission statement) and true leadership from its senior management.

Advice to Management

I hope the new owner and senior management will address the areas that need to be improved. The first and most important step would be recognizing the Customer as a person not an order total on a sales report.

If the Customers have a good shopping experience with Calumet Photographic via the Call Center, Retail Stores or on the Website, they will come back. The best way to insure the customers have a positive experience with Calumet Photographic is for the new owner and senior management is to use its most valuable asset, its employees.

The employees from the Call Center, Retail Stores and Website know the Customers better than anyone else since they deal with the customers directly. They know the company's strengths and weaknesses and how it affects the Customers' shopping experience.

    Pros

Located in Chicago, deals on photography equipment and get to pick the brains of some of the best photographers in the industry

    Cons

The company is not managed very well and has lost its focus on who they are and want the want to be in the market place.

    Advice to Management

Remember that the company was built on the knowledge of the employees (who are photographers). Have some direction for the company and share that with them.
