"Definitely, NOT a 'Great Place to Work'. A black cloud that looms over the SF offices where most decisions are made."

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    - global exposure to financial institutions
    - strong back office personnel in one of the global development offices around the world
    - sales force that still make sales when the software really doesn't meet any front office needs for any bank

    Cons

    - nepotism
    - giving incompetent people the power to manage or lead
    - no experience in executing
    - no experience in front office as input from former people in the field are disregarded by so-called product gurus
    - no experience in understanding what is a real requirement vs a client's 'off the wall' requirement or 'else the deal is off'
    - continuing to use 'low-cost' labor to substitute for market knowledge and competence
    - development managers that work in silos and have no understanding of the product's needs
    - sales force continues to make impossible 'deal-breakers' with clients and no requirements for the company to build, or else, 'the deal is off'

    Advice to Management

    - just learn to execute
    - teach people to collaborate
    - are people the most important asset to the company? If yes, show it. If not, carry on with the present.

    Pros

Well-managed balance sheet. Company is financially secure and financially conservative.

    Cons

Growth is minimal. There is very little opportunity for personal growth. A number of folks are over-qualified for their daily tasks. As such, if you work there too long, you get stuck and become uncompetitive. It seems like several long-tenured folks are there because they are stuck, not because it's a great upside opportunity.

    Advice to Management

You can't grow to the next level if the culture is dominated by one person. You've got to get new management that is both empowered and capable of leading & building. Also, when doing training programs, you should consider investing in reputable, industry-respected education; not the home-grown stuff you currently rely upon. As it currently exists, anyone with an ounce of ambition and flexibility cannot afford to stay at Calypso.
