Pros

Capital One's forward-thinking, development-focused culture is the main selling point, in my opinion. The company is made up intelligent, driven associates who are supported by a management team that is committed to engaging them as humans, not just employees. The focus on growth is tangible, and it makes all the difference.

Another point that stands out is the willingness to take risks and learn from failure. The party line is that, if you never fail, you aren't trying hard enough, and this is taken into account when evaluating performance.

All in all, when most people imagine what it's like to work at a bank, they imagine a scene out of "Office Space" or the beginning part of "Fight Club" before things get weird. Capital One is lightyears away from that stereotype. It feels more like a technology company than a bank, more akin to Google than Goldman.

Cons

Because we're in such a heavily regulated industry, there are a ton of governance tasks and checks and balances. It can sometimes feel like you spend a large amount of your time cutting through red tape. This isn't such a big deal most days though.

Advice to Management

Culturally, keep on keeping on.

    Pros

Benefits, some talented co-workers, workplace environment.

    Cons

no well balanced diversity, product teams have no talented POs and have their heads in the clouds most of the time, party all time seems to be the motto, women in tech is a joke - most women issues at work are ignored and if you raise it then you are ostracized. no work life balance unless you are on maternity or paternity, bad people managers and senior management.

    Advice to Management

The CEO is inspiring and motivating -the rest is all downhill - the rest of the management is hopeless, chaotic, unaware and full of shiny object syndrome. Stop wasting the company's money in hiring and entertaining chockfull of interns and TDPs - focus on meaningful and diverse hiring based on skills and talent. Stop focussing on your own careers advancements- make and give promotions to talented people - listen and know what teams think about a person rather than rely on just their manager reviews. There is too much prejudice, politics, favoritism at workplace - know it and fix it. Don't sweep gender issues under the rug and develop ostrich syndrome. Don't share and name drop when individuals trust you with their feedback about people.
