I worked at Capital One as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Great benefits, office is very nice. Supervisors are very concerned with your professional development and job rotations are very common, aiming to give young employees the ability to gain a broad base of experience. Hours are very low key, and vacation time/personal days are generous. Similarly, pay is great considering the hours (most people are out of the office by noon on Fri.) and location (Richmond, a major office, has a very low cost of living).

Cons

Culture is very unique and can be turn off to some people (myself included). Also, a heavy emphasis on Capital One procedurs, policies and terminology makes your skills very Capital One Specific. It would be difficult to lateral to another company 5-10 years into working at Capital One.

Advice to Management

No real concrete suggestions, what they are doing works for what they are trying to achieve.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Benefits (3 weeks PTO, sick days don't count, health, dental, vision, FSA matching...)
    - Work / Life Balance
    - Employee appreciation (Fun days, spring flings, etc...)
    - Training
    - Vision

    Cons

The company puts a lot of effort into hiring the "best" and "brightest"... until there is a shortage of employees at which point many of the elements designed to screen the "less desirable" people are often thrown out the window. This is a non issue most of the time, but the company's year end review process is such that people above, below, and at your level have a say and can impact your year end rating. So if politics isn't your game then this may not be the company for you.

    Advice to Management

    - Listen to your employees.
    - Don't fall victim to the latest buzz words
    - Understand a process before asking to implement it
