I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The majority of the associates are incredibly smart and driven. Salaries and benefits are good -- the vacation is especially generous, but it can be hard to find time to take it.

    Cons

Performance management pits employees against each other, and takes up 2-3 months every year. If you're willing to put in a lot of work over and above your normal role, you can get promoted, but the bar rises every year.

The culture is very meeting-based; it's common to find yourself without a spare minute all day, and then you still have to do your "real work."

    Advice to Management

Be aware of mixed messages -- the campus was blanketed with banners and signs about the company mission just days after a layoff was announced.

I worked at Capital One full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

High energy place, smart people around, quality of work

    Cons

The card division had worsened over the years. Politics had taken root in the culture. From being a fair and progressive company, the place had become a joke.
The management selects a bunch of individuals based on perception and then gives them a free pass to success. The selection is purely based on perception rather than true results. The place was hell bent on showing how open it is to certain historically disadvantaged groups and gave favorable benefits to them inspite of work not upto the mark. (Hint: if you are from such groups might not be a bad idea to join )
Promotions especially to the dir level make no sense, its purely driven by who "likes" you!

    Advice to Management

The hippopotamus program is a failure! Wake up, dont base your management on theories written by some business gurus who at the end of the day want to sell their books and seminars. Remember what brought you success in the first place. Otherwise the place will be full of only hippos with no one to do the actual work. You wont have any lessons learned decks to share anymore. There wont be any company left
