Pros

- Everyone here is extremely intelligent, due to the stringent hiring guidelines
- Great reputation in the industry; very impressive on a resume
- Tons of responsibility and trust given to employees
- Very flexible with time off and working remotely

Cons

- Lots of competition for promotions and not enough spots

Advice to Management

In the current economy, turn more of your attention to Operations as opposed to Acquisitions. Cost cutting and streamlining our current processes will be the way to win during the credit crunch and the employees in Ops should be rewarded.

    Pros

Let me clarify that I worked for Capital One BANK, or the New Orleans-based bank Hibernia, which was one of the first banks purchased by Capital One, N.A. in 2005. It was very friendly, open, and very, very efficient. Local communication within the company was clear, everyone knew to whom to report or whom to call if there were a problem. Advancement opportunities and salary compensation were often fair as the Bank took care of its employees and often treated them like family. Capital One Bank was very generous about paid time off, holidays, sick leave. To summarize:
    - Pleasant Environment
    - Fair advancement opportunities
    - Good local communication

    Cons

Over time, communication broke down within the company and the Corporate Red Tape took over. Bank employees were treated as if they were ignorant. Changes in policy slowed, eventually nullifying, the efficiency that the original bank once had. Managers became distant figureheads and employees were prevented from actually doing their jobs by red tape. There was a lot of wasteful spending, money which could have been put back into the company. I would not be led to believe that one's job is secure due to layoffs in favor of foreign outsourcing. To summarize:
    - Very poor distance communication
    - Corporate "Red Tape"
    - Wasteful spending
    - "Us" versus "Them" mentality between the Bank/Corporate sides
    - Job security

    Advice to Management

Stop. Wasting. Money. Contractors, hardware, outsourcing, software upgrades, end-of-life computers, etc...please think about where the money is actually going. Invest in your local employees, stop outsourcing HR and IT, and begin treating all employees like they are valuable. If you don't care about them, they won't care about you (or your customers). Employees who feel like their company cares about them will work harder, will stay longer, and be more motivated than workers who feel like they work for a giant.
