I have been working at CarMax full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good Benefits, exempt employees are engaged in the business.

Cons

The company punishes those who will not relocate from big market stores and hand out bonuses to managers in store that do significantly less work in new markets off the backs of big market employees. Company shows a lot of favoritism behind closed doors. Employees are significantly underpaid compared to similar jobs at competing companies.

Advice to Management

retain your talent by paying what the market dictates their talent deserves.

    I worked at CarMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Decent company to work for in terms of hours and pays slightly above minimum wage. Great college job to prepare you for corporate America.

    Cons

    Unfortunately has slid in terms of management and wages at the company are no longer keeping pace with the market.

    Pros

    Used to be an excellent work environment, team building, managers interested in your career.

    Cons

    Inadequate training. Current focus is on text book type recurrent training instead of hands on. Senior and Regional management too far removed from the sales floor to see what works effectively. Definite double standards between management and sales.

    Advice to Management

    Get out on the floor and sell occasionally, it is the only way to see for yourself what actually works.
