I have been working at CarMax full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great coworkers. Feeling out all the various new cars coming into inventory.

Cons

Micro-Managed is an understatement. Constant criticism from management. Underpaid. Require multiple unpaid morning huddles each week. Sales Managers giving away deals to meet budget. The amount of work does not reflect in the pay that we make.

Advice to Management

Restructure the pay scale. Consultants that average 10 cars a month should make at least 40k a year. Sorry but less than that is not acceptable. Not here in California. And not for me.

    Pros

    Working with great customers. Not micromanaged. Training is very helpful, keeping up to date.

    Cons

    New consultants our held to different expectations. Veteran consultants get a lot more slack, held to different expectations

    Advice to Management

    Sales managers need to be on the same page with every sales consultant

    Pros

    High integrity culture. National locations. Quality Brand.

    Cons

    Misinform multiple new hires during the hiring process. Mid - high level opportunities. Advancements are strongly determined by who you know in the good ole boys arena. Though performance is a key factor. Operations opportunity for mid - high level mgmt is limited for females.

    Advice to Management

    C level may want to take a closer look on clicks and good ole boy mentality. Quality mgrs and associates have left because they were overlooked because of who they weren't friends with outside of work.
