Pros

As a sales consultant you are an integral part of the appraisal (buying vehicles) process with customers. This can be a very productive part of the sales process and requires considerable inter action with the Buyers who do the actual appraisal. Unfortunately.......see below

Cons

Most of the male buyers are arrogant, petty and believe their arm pits don't smell. Female buyers are professional for the most part, go out of thier way to help and offer assistance in working with customers. The male buyers are another story; they are insulting, condescending and believe you are challenging their integrity if you ask them a simple question or need a clarification. The buyers get rotated through local stores and the feedback from sales consultants at all stores is uniformly negative. The buyers' managers at each store encourage this behavior and treat all other associates with contempt and pettiness.

Advice to Management

Remind the buying staff, including managers, that the company has a policy of Treating Associates With Respect. Just like Sales consultants have to keep watching endless Smart Clips, reinforce the policy of TAWR on a regular basis.

    Pros

Great Culture, good full time benefits and you do get a weekend off every 6 weeks compared to a traditional dealership which is never.

    Cons

daily huddles...to much training including an hour long training on Sundays. Company focuses a lot of training to cover those with little sales experience.

    Advice to Management

stand up to corporate to much training as a group and not enough one on one training

I worked at CarMax full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are in sales, the sales consultants are friendly.

    Cons

Everything else. Carmax is hiring robotic drones. No one has a college degree and the management team is terrible. As an employee you are not allowed to think outside the box so they hire robots that have managed places like Jack in the Box and Ace Hardware, etc. The "best places to work" Gallup Survey is staged. Don't believe it. They have thorough meetings guiding the associates on how to answer it.

    Advice to Management

None. It's not your fault. Also, you wouldn't take the advice given because you are a drone.
