I have been working at Carbonite full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good benefits, rather stable work environment, co-workers are friendly

Cons

Tediously micromanaging overhead, smug attitudes from managers, only focus is on making numbers. Schedules demand mandatory overtime and early arrival. Training for company policy compliance is rushed and does not cover all company policies. Management is not focused, nor effective.

Room for career advancement is severely limited. When Carbonite was in need of program developers, they ignored current talent existing within their own workforce. Promotion to management is on an inclusive buddy system.

Advice to Management

Management seems to push negative influence from their supervisors down onto the representatives. Biggest annoyance was being interrupted in the middle of a call to a supervisor breathing down my neck. Next is the persistent smug attitude managers uphold, acting like literal superior beings to the representatives. Casual conversations between managers would take place nearby representatives trying to take calls, causing noise pollution. Managers are untrained to handle simple questions regarding Carbonite employee questions. Managers treat employees as children in regards to tone of voice. Managers are hardly available for help as there is daily morning/evening meetings where none are available. Managers are hardly available as they are most usually ignoring subordinates and/or performing casual conversation with other managers. Managers are most usually unavailable for contact due to not being logged in. Managers usually tend to provide the wrong information indicating lack of managerial production education. Upper management levels apparently need further information regarding the operation and maintenance of technical support call centers.

    Wonderful engineering teams and many talented people.

    Cons

    Some middle managers more interested in political infighting to build their power then developing employees.

    Advice to Management

    Encourage senior managers to remove managers that bully employees.

    Pros

    Committed and talented senior leadership in customer care provides good direction, projections, and valuable feedback. Senior leadership is inspiring and motivating. Great opportunity for applicants with solid work ethic and passion for technology. Goal of support group is world-class customer service. Very nice employee recognition program, mentoring, on and off-site events.

    Cons

    Although not actually a "con", call center jobs are not for everyone. Ability to maintain schedule adherence and perform in a fast-paced customer-facing environment is required.
