Advice to Management

A good manager should also be a good communicator and a person who is able to pull the best out of the people in his/her team. Praise, constructive feedbacks and ability to show that you care are very important. If you cannot do this you should not be a manager.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Reasonable to excellent HR policies where it counts.

    Cons

It depends on where you work Cargill is "diversified". But there are definitely in crowds that protect each other even in face of obvious poor performance and punish those who try to contribute "out of turn".

    Advice to Management

Spin off some non-core businesses (my god, why are you in iron trading and hedge funds?). Quit screwing with your lower level employees - get them 100% working to clearly support the business in some capacity rather than just trying to keep them "engaged" to everyone's disservice. Crony managers who want to keep large antiquated organizations and protect "family" are making/keeping you fat. As a private company Cargill is fast to make short-sighted decisions where it has the luxury of time, and slow to impliment on the workforce efficiencies that have been around for ages.

Keep being humane to your employees, but improve how work is managed and how good you are at identifying useful directions and inspiring everyone including the large percentage of introverts in this company to have an impact on the actual business strategy. Just having processes and humane HR practices is not good enough.
