Pros

Environment is built on relationships, so if you are relationship oriented this is the place for you. Responsibility is given at early point in your career as you strive for more.

Cons

Decision making process is not efficient. Silos of operation are easily formed by business units or finctional units which impacts productivity.

Advice to Management

As Cargill continues to grow the pressure is to move into the typical operating model of other large companies. This threatens the history of the "family" company and an environment of trust. Decisions need to be made, but the change of the culture is a result to be considered.

    Pros

Cargill has had a good reputation, mostly be befitting from the big rise in commodity prices. The pay has been good and there have been a lot of opportunities but when times have got bad they have shown themselves not to be up to the challenge. Even though I held a position in Human Resources it is not a company I could recommend in good conscience to anyone looking to join.

    Cons

Management has turned over very heavily in the last two years and it is not at all clear what Cargill is doing. Recent heavy layoffs have been managed extremely badly resulting in a lot of long tenured Cargill people really wondering what the place has come to.

    Advice to Management

Get back some of the experienced people who retired while the stock price was high and start treating people like human beings again.

    Pros

A very diverse company with many advancement opportunities. It's privately held can cash rich. Good culture if you work for the right business unit. Cargill has over 60 different business units.

    Cons

Lack of accountability and a sense that business unit management was detached from reality. Too many silos and politics led to a toxic culture where you were reprimanded for challenging the Status Quo. Company as a whole too a knee jerk reaction to recent financial struggles in cutting in areas that added significant value.

    Advice to Management

Remember you are a private company and do not need to slash costs to meet a quarterly earnings target. Don't lose sight of the Challenge, Innovate, Mentality that has been around since 1865.
