Cons

Agribusiness is not a very attractive industry.

Advice to Management

The Cargill point of view is more parochial than other firms. Opening the minds of the employees to the larger world, will unleash Cargill's potential.

    Advice to Management

There is no commitment to driving the concepts generated at corporate down to the plants. It almost appears to be an issue of plausible deniability. This is regarding management style and culture, not safety or environment (violations of that nature are dealt with immediately). At each location, there are usually a few "corporate" managers, the rest are from the dark ages - generally having worked their way up thru the location. Over and over you hear stories about how far from the leadership model these dark-ages managers are functioning, to a level to be almost embarrassing. If any manager in corporate acted the way these managers at the plants do, they would be terminated or on probation immediately. But instead, we leave them be at the plants, where they are directly influencing 95% of our workforce. Ridiculous. We are only the company we say we are at corporate - we are somebody entirely different at the plants.

    Pros

All the people were intelligent and most were excited about the work they were doing. People who came across as less excited about their workload and opportunities had been with the company and in the same position for a long time, and perhaps some degree of burnout had occurred.

    Cons

The harvest season was extremely busy and required very long hours to keep up with the work. This meant coming in very early in the morning and staying later than a typical day as well. Time off during this time was somewhat nonexistant!! However, it was still a team of people working with you, so I never felt alone on a project.

    Advice to Management

The management team working with me was always honest while being supportive and as helpful as they could be.
