I have been working at Carnival full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Travel to beautiful places, met so many amazing crew members from all over the world, had lots of fun, loved being in entertainment dept, great memories

Cons

Being away from home for 6 months or more at a time, work 7 days a week, having a roommate, so never get a break from work environment, not great pay. I loved my job but being away that long sucks your life and time away from you.. Its great for a year or two though!

Advice to Management

Guests do not like 2.0... They really want more live music

I have been working at Carnival full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Competitive benefits. Mature processes. Good work life balance. Stable. Reasonable expectations and workload. Flexible work schedules.

    Cons

Little accountability leads to an environment of waste. Significant promotion from within has resulted in mid level management with great cruiseline experience but showing less professional maturity. Limited quantitative measurement of individual success.

    Advice to Management

Get serious about employee reviews and appraisals. Instititute a more meaningful job performance assessment that measures an employees actual quantitative value and not how likeable someone is.

  2. "Great co-workers, horrible shoreside management & practices"

I worked at Carnival as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Meeting people from all over the world, variety of exotic ports, no cost of living if you choose, different work environment, clientele constantly change.

    Cons

ridiculous policies, poorly managed from the shore, treats employees horribly, long working hours.

    Advice to Management

Employees will work better if treated with respect. Just because there is another person willing to work under horrible conditions doesn't mean you should treat the current ones as though they are disposable. Quality workers should be treated as such. Especially if they are a long time in the company.
