Pros

Some interesting opportunities, you can be part of a very successful company with connections throughout the world. You can gain a good understanding of the market, or your specific job, although many departments don't communicate as well as they should. Some people seems to stay for a very long time and clearly enjoy their jobs, there is a good atmosphere, on the whole the product is fun and reflects the people who work there.

Cons

There needs to be more joined up thinking, and there always felt there was a lack of trust from management. It is a very secretive company, even from within and the corporate atmosphere doesn't help further innovation. If you are ambitious, then they may only be limited scope to move beyond the post you applied for. There is little staff development, in fact I don't remember there being a HR Dept. You don't have anyone neutral to talk to about your role, especially if you're finding it hard to communicate to your managers. Although it likes to think it breaks through the corporate atmosphere, with events and parties, barriers remain between Management and staff, a real us and them climate that means staff with good ideas don't have the opportunity to put them forward.

Advice to Management

Need to find structures that enable staff to develop their roles, and map out a career path, many people leave because there simply aren't the avenues available to them to evolve their careers.

I worked at Carte Blanche Greetings full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting projects, some brilliant people. Most of CBGs distant, wealthy, semi-competent Directorship clique are frequently absent and ineffectual, fortunately.
If you find you don't like your new job at CBG it's OK- redundancies are frequent and regular. The remote location (just out of convenient reach of Chichester) will ensure few distractions and plenty of quiet time in which to reconsider your blunder.

    Cons

    Terrible company:
CBG is “managed” by insular, conservative, under-experienced, bullying, incompetent middlemen. If it rained gold they'd still lose money.
Despite incessant and disruptive "bold new initiative" drives CBG retain a fixed, conservative culture, institutionally incapable of meaningful change.
Directors are a frequently a liability to effective operations while middle managers are dangerously under-skilled, rarely bringing any substantial relevant experience to their roles.
There's a serious trust gap between staff and management and annual analyses reveal a consistent record of appalling communication.
The isolated Tangmere location ensures a very dull half-hour lunch break, far from any social or business life while pay is well below market rate as the company fails to arrest it's free-fall decline.
If you force through the red tape swamp, battle through the intransigent management layers or even produce whole projects in your own time, credit for any contributions you do make will likely be stolen by your superiors.
The company has consistently failed to adapt over the past decade and large scale redundancies are now an annual occurrence.

    Advice to Management

Grow up, stop lying. Learn the processes. Get out of your offices and get your hands dirty working alongside staff, if you dare. Directors- either run the business or stay on the yacht, you clearly have no idea how anything's done. Your frustrations at the miserable attitude and inefficiency of your own company only highlight your own ignorance of it's shop floor, day-to-day life.

    Pros

UK team are great and they should talk to more people in Australia to see how easy it would be to help in this market

    Cons

The Boss is a bully- so many ex employees say- she is a control freak who belittles retailers and is very different when the going gets hard.
