I have been working at Catalina Foothills School District (More than 5 years)

Pros

Great place to train as a teacher; lots of professional development opportunities; cutting-edge, research-driven instruction & high use of latest technology; well-kept facilities & lower class sizes; generally supportive & friendly staff (depending on your school site); OK salary & benefits package; extra funds provided to reimburse out-of-pocket costs for classroom supplies

Cons

Very demanding & time-consuming responsibilities; expect to spend lots of your own time planning/grading, plus attending various school events; very high level of parental involvement (both positive & negative); extremely tight level of district control over what you can & can't do in the classroom; very limited opportunities for upward career growth; can be difficult to get time-off when needed; students from mostly wealthy families sometimes have elitist attitudes

Advice to Management

Don't let wealthy parents scare you into creating overly-restrictive policies based on a single negative incident. Let good current employees know about upcoming job openings before they are advertised to the public to avoid losing good people who may want a change.

    Pros

    - Great facilities, good funding for classroom supplies, coworkers receptive to new faces, campus administrators very supportive

    Cons

    - Complexity of the system structure is overwhelming for a new teacher just starting ( I was an experienced veteran and still struggled...)
    - Parents can be extremely supportive yet extremely demanding at the same time
    - If you look at your paycheck and compare it to the hours you will put in to be effective at your job, you will realize you would be better off financially in another career
    - Huge annual staff turnover rate

    Advice to Management

-Pay your new teachers a stipend for the time they spend in NTO and the week they put in after school ends. The phrase "it's your obligation as part of your contract" gets old.
