Pros

St. Vincent's School for Boys offers opportunity to help children in deep need, most diverse workforce in terms of background and talent, highest level of workplace camaraderie imaginable, wonderful source of satisfaction in short and long term effects of effort.

Cons

Highest level of minute to minute, hour to hour, and day to day physical and emotional stress ever encountered, high risk of exhaustion and burnout.

Advice to Management

More training in psychology and care of abused children. Better and more frequent pay increases.
Find ways to disassemble cliques and old boy networks. Management needs to spend more time in hands-on experience of daily routines. Better dietary and entertainment structures and oversight.

    Pros

The job was fulfilling in the sense of helping others

    Cons

Pay and resources were minimal due to the fact that it is a non profit

    Advice to Management

Management nees to ensure that their people are well compensated in order to keep good talent.
Most employees that work for the Diocese find their jobs to be gratifying but it is also important for them to hear it. Sometimes, a simple acknowledgement of good work goes a long way. That goes for any company, not just for non-profit organizations.

  2. "This is a place for a person with ambition to help people and not make money!"

    Pros

It is a relaxed work environment where they still trust in their employees to do what is necessary for each of their programs to succeed. Since, this is a non-profit organization the little perks given like a long lunch and only working 7.5 hours a day makes it ok to not have constant bonuses. The yearly bonus for Christmas is a nice a perk if and when they have the funds. I recommend Catholic Charities as a place to work for if you don't care to succeed in other ways other than helping people. If you don't care about money and the work you do is because you really want to help than this is the place for you.

    Cons

Underpaid staff, not much of employee appreciation, such as a floating holiday for outstanding work. There is really no recognition program for those that go above and beyond the call of duty other than for volunteers.

    Advice to Management

Be fair with the rest of your staff and don't play favorites.
