Great management style, flexible work environment, very collaborative

Old management had some very bad habits, and overcoming those and turning the ship around is frustrating and effort intensive.

I worked at Celanese full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent training and attention to employee development
    Close working relationship with superiors

    Cons

Lack of promotion opportunity (unless you are an exception, it seems that you must leave and return to move up)
Some would say a negative culture, but I did not find this to be different than previous employers
New open-concept offices may be a turn off for many

    Advice to Management

Increase the number of salary bands to provide promotion opportunities for mid-level employees.
Provide stock units (RSUs) as part of the standard compentation package for employee alignment.

I have been working at Celanese full-time

    Pros

I will admit that there are pockets within the company where things are better than others. Pay is decent. Flat organization allows for good exposure to upper management. They hire talented people (they just have a hard time keeping them around)

    Cons

The same flat organization doesn't provide enough room to grow. I know people who have been here for 10 on a good career path, but have never had a direct report. In many cases a person's first managerial role has 50+ direct reports. How can you possibly learn who the good managers are this way? Often you report to one person, but someone else does your performance reviews because the person you report to just doesn't like/want to do it. It is quite frustrating to report to someone who you don't actually work for. They do not care about people or employee development. In fact, they don't want people to go out and get professional certifications because they know that they will leave once they have the opportunity. This all culminates in 25+% turnover. It's seriously ridiculous how quickly people come in and out of this place.

    Advice to Management

Money will not make people happy, only non-dissatisfied. Make this a good place to work and people will stay. If you are confident that people want to work at your company then you should promote and invest in employee development. Give people more decision making authority and build in another level of management. You do not need to pay these people more! The responsibility is enough and you get to find out who will be good managers before their impact is too great. This requires some level of 360 degree feedback.
