I worked at Cengage full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

The company was one of the best in the industry and that has now changed! The management was at one time the best in the industry. There was pride, and respect that came with being a success at Cengage Learning.People make the company!

Cons

Too much change all at once now everyone is in fear of their future and the companies as well , The sharks a circling the tank.

Advice to Management

Your sales force is the driving force and don't forget this!

    I worked at Cengage full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Decent base pay w/ good incentive compensation if you make your number. Great benefits package...sales reps get a car w/ maintenance and gas all paid for, along with medical, 401(k), etc. Very competitive textbook offerings in most disciplines.

    Cons

    Too many different technology offerings with no consistent brand. Financially unstable, which has lead to mass layoffs. Long and non-traditional hours, so lots of nights and weekends make it hard to get that work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

    Reinvent yourself by changing the business model. Trying to convert everything from print to digital offerings is only half the battle. Need to market and sell directly to students.

    Competitive benefits, flexible work schedules, good community outreach

    Cons

    Too Many Silos, Innovation not encouraged and severely lacking, no shared sense of urgency or vision on top company challenges,

    Advice to Management

    Firm up digital strategy and roadmap for implementing it. Don't just preach "two-in-a-box" approach - ensure that everyone understands what it will mean to them and how the organizational changes and structure are critical to the success of the approach and ultimately benefit the future of Cengage Learning.
