I have been working at Cengage full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great colleagues, hard working employees, superior authors and content.

Cons

Three major reorganizations in the sales organization and constant changes impacting marketing and editorial all in one year. Given the complexity of the products and services in comparison to competitor's offerings, quality was declining at rapid pace. Add in a bankruptcy filing and the vote of confidence with employees and customers takes another hit.

Advice to Management

With the company's fate in the court's hand, management should make an effort to let employees think they are impacting outcomes at some level.

    Pros

    Supports education and our schools.

    Cons

    Leadership is abysmal and lacks the strategic planning skills required to take an industry into the future. When leadership says, "How would we know that the industry would change" . . . they should not be leading any company.

    Advice to Management

    Stop promoting people to their next level of incompetency and stop promoting people because their spouses/friends hold high level positions in the company.

    Pros

    good people work at the company - it used to be a great company / people work hard at Cengage

    Cons

    poor compensation / unrealistic goals in certain parts of the country because management is not tuned in to the different areas / chaotic environment / slow on product development / a lot of backorder issues since the filing of Chapter 11 / counting too much on one digital product to pull Cengage out of this mess and it isn't enough

    Advice to Management

    work harder to retain your people - there won't be many good people left in the next two years / communicate to employees more on the status of our restructuring / stop acting like everything is great when it is not
