Pros

When you get to focus on the mission, its rewarding. Potential to engage with thought leaders, media, entertainment and global rights advocates is high. Good civic exposure. Great networking opportunity.

Cons

Doesn't seem like they have a good track record of hiring people with actual expertise for the role. Can be disheartening to "spark" others to become advocates but not actually do work to further civil and human rights. Many hires and most consultants are relationship-based, quid pro quo favors for execs and board members, etc. Excessive amounts of money is spent in all the wrong places - that add no value or provide positive impact. Leadership has typically lacked internal focus. The organization attracts CEO's who are external thought leaders who do not generally invest in staff development or set organizational culture. Very dysfunctional. Sometimes toxic. Often unprofessional and chaotic. No accountability. Can be elitist. Very low expectations at this organization - and no investment will be made to provide tools needed to perform at higher levels. Gender and race-bias rampant (like anywhere else) so do not be surprised. Although this is still a relatively new organization, it should not take a decade to implement an effective organizational chart and create a more positive culture. You will find very few people who can survive this organization longer than 2-3 years.
