Pros

CenterPoint Energy is a great place to be employed in these tough economic times. We are continueing to grow and prosper when other businesses are folding and closing doors. The working hours are great because you can always know where you will be Monday - Friday, unlike factory or sales work.

Cons

I have found that there is still some of the "good ole boy" system still left in the company. Not all employees are treated the same from supervisors.
When someone contacts HR in response to a problem, fingers get pointed. But very little is done to resolve problem.
Promotions and pay raises are not distributed fairly.

Advice to Management

The senior management is doing a very good job. I have seem major improvements since joining the company.

    Pros

CenterPoint is a well established company, suitable for those professionals who seek a long-term and stable career. The company offers great benefits for employees and supports work-life balance. Since de-regulation, the company has slowly embraced new technology (BPL / Smart Meter technology) and processes to remain competitive and build a strong image/brand in the Texas market.

    Cons

The company continues to adopt an old school mentality which limits creativity/innovation; the company promotes selectively which hinders growth/learning opportunities. In certain business units of the company, diversity has not been fully embraced and you will still find management at the director level who do not have a college degree, but yet, they have been with the company for 20+ years

    Advice to Management

Promote and embrace new ideas from all levels.

    Pros

CenterPoint is a solid, stable company with very good benefits for employees. The changes brought about by de-regulation in the industry, preceded by the merger with the NorAm gas business, have really changed the company over the years, from the Houston Lighting and Power days to today's competitive businesses and regulated businesses combination.

    Cons

Large size and old school thinking limit innovation. The company has a reputation in some departments as being a haven for "good ol' boys" making it harder to fit in if you are not of that ilk, but has made great strides in diversity in most areas.

    Advice to Management

Great ideas can come from all levels of the company.
