I worked at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention full-time (More than a year)

Pros

9 to 5 working hours

Cons

the insane bureaucracy leaves little time for actual public health work, and requires residency trained medical officers to do inane tasks for getting promoted.

Advice to Management

modify the promotion procedures to reflect actual scientific / technical job performance rather than ability to game the promotions process.

I worked at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a contractor

    Pros

Lots of resources, modern facilities, and state-of-the-art instrumentation. Competitive salaries.

    Cons

CDC hires most people as contractors in order to provide the minimum amount of benefits. The only benefit I had was health insurance, that's it. If you are a contractor, they don't withhold any taxes from your paycheck which means you have to make hefty quarterly payments to the IRS. Very difficult to make a career there without a post-graduate degree and your boss pushing for it.
