I worked at Central Garden & Pet full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Good place to work if you like having to drive a tractor-trailer loaded with pet food 700 miles a day and make 22 stops a day (no docks - mom & pop pet food stores mostly- you unload freight onto a lift gate and roll it across busy streets) parking in the middle of the street, etc. You'll love it if you like to work your ars off.

Cons

Don't even think about working overtime - they will fire you flat and not give you a chance to learn the runs. VERY FLAKY COMPANY

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Prior focus on all customers and local branch needs not just the holy trinity / 3 top national accounts

    Cons

Over weight on the investment Central brands to the detriment of the distribution vendor partner products that are proven winners.
Spending millions on propective aquisitions but nothing to show for it, dump the flat tires in this department and pull the trigger on something, anything. Its not rocket science.

    Advice to Management

After the guru's grand plan fails, get back to serving the customer needs which built the company to this size in the first place. Not what overpriced CGP brands you want them to need. The elimination of distribution will leave CGP with branded only products that are not of quality, over priced and can be replaced by competitive products.
