I have been working at Charles River Development full-time

Pros

- Leading vendor in the investment management space with highly respected name in the industry
- Strong growth even through the financial downturn
- Selective hiring and low tolerance for incompetency means high caliber colleagues
- They cover the gamut of financial investments so lots of challenges and opportunities to learn
- Management focused on continual improvement to efficiency and processes
- Commitment to long-term growth and invests in projects that will not have a return for years out

Cons

- Deliberately decentralized structure so the employee experience varies considerably depending on the department and immediate managers

I worked at Charles River Development full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    --Compensation very competitive
    --Benefits package solid
--A lot of talented, bright people will be your cohorts
    --Training is emphasized and encouraged
--A lot of chances for different projects and job roles
    --Some good managers

    Cons

--For IM's and IC's - heavy travel (but you know that going in)
--Middle management has the typical tech company problem - people promoted into management because they were good at the job, not because they will be good managers - with predictably poor results
--Upper leadership seems to drift a lot, somewhat directionless

    Advice to Management

--If you have a pool of people doing a job, the person who is best at that job MAY NOT necessarily make a good MANAGER of those people. Different skill sets.
--Set some kind of meaningful, strategic direction for the company, communicate it, and stick to it

    Pros

smart and talented workers, good benefits and salary

    Cons

senior management is totally autocratic, company is mature & lacking innovation, line staff and middle mgt are indiscrimately fired, high turnover, senior mgt are not client focused, only care about the bottom line

    Advice to Management

start focussing on your current clients in a meaningful way
