Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Competitive salary compared to other districts
More job opportunities than other districts
Lots of cultural diversity within district and schools

Cons

Required to follow strict pacing guides for lesson plans
Administration puts a lot of silly requirements on teachers (down to which posters must be on your classroom walls) leaving little time for "real teaching"
Huge focus on teaching to the test

Advice to Management

Let your teachers do their job and don;t micromanage

I have been working at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working with students, seeing growth over time, colleagues

    Cons

New evaluation system, strenous workload without compensation.
I have worked for CMS for over 5 years, but the extended school day, with less classroom assistants is a recipe for overworked and underpayed teacher. Not to mention the amount of documentation that you must have for the new evaluation system.

    Advice to Management

Give quality teacher's a reason to stay.
