I worked at Charming Charlie full-time (More than a year)

Pros

They pay much more than most retail companies. Other than that their isn't much I could say about the company that's good.

Cons

No one in the corporate office has it together. One person will tell you to do something one way, and then the next will tell you to do it another way. You never know who to listen to and what is the right or wrong thing to do. Favoritism seems to be a big issue too.

I worked at Charming Charlie part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with large assortments of merchandise and no corporate planograms for visual merchandising allowed immense creativity on the part of the "charmers" when it came to visual displays.

    Cons

Little to no room for advancement, upper management only cares about bottom line. The company does not protect its employees whatsoever. We were not allowed to tell customers we were closed or turn off the music, which meant that they stayed up to more than an hour past closing.
There is no maternity leave for managers, which caused one manager to hide her pregnancy.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers at the bottom. They know the customers better than you do, and they know whether all of your "brilliant" corporate ideas are actually working or not when they are being implemented. If you don't spend any time on the retail sales floor, but you are coming up with policies and rules that are extremely difficult to actually implement while still helping customers, maybe you shouldn't blatantly ignore the suggestions coming from management in stores.
